The Notorious Abu Gharib

Another interesting news item is the Abu Gharib prison had been handed to the Iraqis government who said they would find use for it that will serve a national interest. The infamous prison, emptied on August 15 the prisoners had been transferred to a $60 million new detention center at Camp Cropper, near the airport. The prison had been used by Sadam to lock up his political opponents and of course the U.S. after the occupation had been using it to bring down the Sunni uprising that had raised a lot of furor and had led to the disciplining of some of the wards for wrong-doing, because the media had been able to air a lot of dirty laundry where human abuse had taken place at an alarming level. Even if it doesn’t signal much, it could be the precursor of what might take place in Iraq, because sooner or later the U.S. might decide to bring about full withdrawal of the military. Nevertheless the President is still gung-ho about staying much longer for fear of the construed Islamic fundamentalism and had stated recently if that takes place, Americans won’t be safe on their own streets.
