Microsoft’s Wrangling with a Soviet Citizen

A school principle who bought computers with bootlegged Windows software was taken to court by the district persecutor and the judge has dismissed it as trivial. The case has attracted the former Soviet leader Michael Gorbachev who intervened on behalf of the accused asking Microsoft not to file criminal charges, but Microsoft said that it was not that is filing the criminal charges. The principle was charged for buying 12 computers that were equipped with the bootlegged version of Windows and Office, being fully aware of what was taking place and he was asked to pay $110 instead of serving a five year term. The president of the Russia Valdimir Putin stated that it is the manufacturers that should be targeted not the consumers and called the whole wrangling nonsense, yet Russia is said to be next to China in bootlegging.
