The Iraqis Take Charge of the Army

Whatever it might be its long term implication, at least the Iraqis have taken the first necessary step of taking charge of their own security when they are handed the first control of the army unit that was disbanded in 2003. The new Iraqi army had been on training for a while and it consists of a small brigade of navy and airforce unit in the south. The whole idea is when the U.S. decides to withdraw from Iraq in the future, they are expected to take full responsibility of looking after their own security. This opportunity will avail them the possibility to develop a future plan as to what direction the military will take in the future as the chain of command will originate directly from the prime minister who is the commander in chief.
