Are Autistic Children a Burden to Society?
That had always been a difficult question to answer and there are two approaches to it. The first one is they have to be treated in their young age so that they will lead a productive life and that costs money, in fact close to $2 million that might have to be footed by tax payers. After going through the early treatment the outcome is some will finish college and get job while some will have to wrestle the sickness for the rest of their life, and among them there are some who need help.
What mostly determines their success in life is their IQ point where if it is below 70 the likelihood that they will have a difficult time copping is high. But there is nothing that will prevent them from going into the workforce, and the fact that they are autistic surfaces when they require some kind of special treatment, otherwise they can melt into the normal crowd.
The second problem is depending on what they could be doing, could they cause damage or create some kind of problem or could people suffer from their sickness? That is a difficult question to answer because most autistic patients do not want to be considered as handicaps, and to make things worse there is no easy mechanism that will identify them outright. This question of their being burden will remain unanswered as proving the sickness 100% had been difficult too. There is a similarity between autism and downs syndrome and for the most part, it might be possible to tell by how they look, other than that, it is all categorization.
